These highway project websites are designed
and devoted specifically to information that will keep you up-to-date and
provide you with an overview on why these projects are so important to
your communities.

Coalfields
Expressway
- The Coalfields Expressway has been
designed to serve an area from Interstates 77 and 64 near Beckley
southwest through West Virginia to Virginia Route 83 in Buchanan
County, VA at Slate. The Expressway will generally follow West
Virginia Route 16 through Raleigh and Wyoming Counties, and West
Virginia Route 83 in McDowell County. This four-lane highway project,
62 miles long, is now approaching its construction phase.

Corridor
"D"
- Currently, construction of Corridor D
has been completed along U.S. Route 50 from Clarksburg, West Virginia,
to the Interstate 77 / Route 50 Interchange just east of Parkersburg,
West Virginia. After crossing the Ohio River into Belpre, Ohio, Route
50 once again becomes a four lane undivided highway.

Corridor
"H"
- To travel from Elkins through Thomas
and Scherr to Moorefield, and thence to the Virginia border, motorists
now must drive more than 119 miles along U.S. Route 219 and West
Virginia routes 93, 42 and 55. Corridor H has been designed to open up
this section of West Virginia so motorists may make the trip in
greater safety and comfort, while still being able to enjoy the
spectacular scenery.

East
Beckley Bypass
- The East Beckley Bypass is the
proposed construction of a new corridor that will roughly follow the
existing US 19 route (Eisenhower Drive) from and to the eastern
boundary of Beckley. The study portion of US 19 begins at the I-64
interchange on the southeast side of Beckley and extends northward to
the Corridor L (US 19) interchange just north of Prosperity.

King
Coal Highway
- The WVDOH and the Federal Highway
Administration propose to construct the King Coal Expressway an
approximately 90-mile highway from a point near Williamson – at the
intersection of WV 65 and US 119 – to Interstate 77 at its US 52
interchange in the Bluefield area.

Route
9
- Pending environmental and historical
impact studies and planning, construction can get underway this year
on two different segments of new highway in Berkeley and Jefferson
counties. Those two – from Charles Town to the Virginia state line
and from Martinsburg to Charles Town – are outlined below. In
addition, planning work is in progress, but at an earlier stage on
other segments: the Martinsburg Bypass and the Rt. 9 section from
Martinsburg to Berkeley Springs.

US 35
-
US 35 is a proposed 4-lane facility from
Henderson in Mason County to I-64 in Putnam County. The total length
(Ohio to I-64) is approximately 34 miles (18 in Mason County; 16 in Putnam
County)

West
Run Expressway
- The proposal would create a new four
lane divided highway a little over six miles long, linking I-68 and
I-79. The connection would carry traffic to various points along I-79
to a point near the Pierpont Road interchange on I-68 (Route 857 at US
119, Easton).

- US 220 Improvements between
Appalachian Corridor H in WV and I-68 in Maryland TIER I CORRIDOR
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT STATEMENT.
- • I-64 Dunbar/South Charleston Bridge
- Construction of new
multi-lane bridge adjacent to existing bridge spanning Kanawha River
between Dunbar and South Charleston, Kanawha County, identified as a
needed improvement within the Charleston MPO Long-Range Transportation
Plan
